Figures are planned budgets, not commitments. Stichting WILD Foundation publishes annual financial accountability; unspent funds roll over to the next phase.
The Financial Case — Built to Withstand Scrutiny
Tranche-based funding, published unit economics, audited governance and named risks. The same discipline a venture board or major donor expects — applied to a nonprofit mission.
Unit economics
What one believer actually costs us to serve, and why the model gets cheaper at scale.
- Cost per 1,000 AI answers
- € 1.10 – € 1.80 (inference, retrieval, moderation); € 1.45 used for planning
- Average use per active believer
- ≈ 500 answers per year = € 0.73 variable cost per user
- Fixed cost base (team, compliance, legal)
- € 485,000 per year — flat regardless of volume
- Annual run cost at scale
- € 667,500 at 250K users (€ 2.67 / user) → € 1,945,000 at 2M users (€ 0.97 / user)
- Marginal cost of a new language
- € 3,200 one-off + € 400 / month — the 25 Phase 1 languages = € 80,000, exactly the translation budget line
Tranche release & milestones
Funds are released in tranches. Each tranche unlocks only when the previous milestone is independently verified by the board.
- Tranche A — € 360,000
- Public beta stable, <2% doctrinal error rate on a 1,000-question benchmark, 5 languages live
- Tranche B — € 480,000
- iOS + Android shipped, 100,000 registered users, security audit passed
- Tranche C — € 420,000
- 15 additional languages, 250 partner churches onboarded, 99.9% uptime over 90 days
- Tranche D — € 180,000
- Independent theological audit published, annual accounts filed, Phase 2 plan approved
Governance & financial controls
Stichting WILD Foundation (KvK 80198228, ANBI 861585446) operates under Dutch foundation law.
- Dual authorisation
- No payment above € 2,500 without two board signatures
- Segregation of duties
- The person approving an expense never executes the payment
- Annual accounts
- Published publicly; ANBI status requires and enforces this
- Quarterly donor report
- Spend per budget line, milestone status, variance explained
- Zero private benefit
- No shares, no dividends, no profit distribution — legally impossible under ANBI
- Overhead ceiling
- Administration capped at 7% of total expenditure
Named risks & mitigations
We state the risks plainly. A plan that names no risks is a plan nobody should fund.
- Compute price volatility
- Multi-provider strategy, aggressive caching, € 20,000 contingency reserve
- Doctrinal error in output
- Safeguard layer, benchmark suite, review board, public correction log
- Regulatory change (EU AI Act)
- Compliance budget ring-fenced; classified and documented before launch
- Key-person dependency
- Documented systems, escrowed code, board succession clause
- Funding shortfall
- Phased scope: each tranche delivers a usable product on its own
After Phase 1 — how this stays alive
Donations start the mission; they are not meant to carry it forever.
- Recurring giving
- 8,000 monthly partners × € 12.50 = € 1,200,000 per year — 62% of the € 1,945,000 run cost at 2M users, targeted by month 24
- Institutional licensing
- Churches, seminaries and mission agencies pay for team features
- Grants & foundations
- Christian technology and literacy grants, applied for in parallel
- Always free core
- Scripture answers remain free for every believer, permanently
All figures are planned budgets and modelled estimates based on current market pricing, not guarantees. Actuals are reported quarterly and audited annually.
